Sorghum Insect Identification Handbook
(Information Bulletin No.12)
1983.  International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics   (ICRISAT).Patancheru, India. 125 pp.

There is no separate handbook about Pearl Millet pests but sorghum is very similar, so many of the relevant pests are found in this identification handbook.

Availability: Rare in Namibia. The ICRISAT handbooks are scattered among Namibian research stations and a few individuals. Check with Agriculture and Environment Library in Ongwediva.

Sorghum and Pearl Millet Disease Identification Handbook
(Information Bulletin No.2)
1978.  International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics   (ICRISAT).Patancheru, India. 88 pp.

Pearl Millet and Sorghum in Namibia have few diseases due to the dry climate (mainly smuts). This book may therefore not be so important.

Availability: Rare in Namibia. The ICRISAT handbooks are scattered among Namibian research stations and a few individuals. Check with Agriculture and Environment Library in Ongwediva.

(Information Bulletin No.26)
1989.  International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics   (ICRISAT).Patancheru, India. 120 pp.

Contains descriptions and photos of insect on legumes. It is of some importance for staff who deal with legumes, because there are so few handbooks about legume pests.

Availability: Very rare in Namibia. The ICRISAT handbooks are scattered among Namibian research stations and a few individuals. Check with Agriculture and Environment Library in Ongwediva.

Pests and Diseases of Tropical Crops
Volume 2: Field Handbook
D.S.Hill and J.M.Waller. Second Impression 1990. Longman Group. 432 pp. Line drawings plus a few B/W and colour photos. ISBN 0-582-60615-2

A classic book. 41 international crops are covered. Crops of special interest for Namibia: Citrus, Cotton, Groundnut, Maize, Millet, Pulses (=legumes), Sorghum, Sweet Potato, Tomato. If you can avoid it then skip volume 1 which is mainly general lecture-room stuff for students.

Avaliability: Quite common in Namibia. The volume should be present at many research stations and extension offices in northern Namibia. Try also Agriculture and Environment Library in Ongwediva. This handbook is often reprinted so look out for newer prints. Check if there are special low-price editions for developing countries.
