No local names were recorded. The CABI crop pest compendium gives the
scientifically preferred name as Grammodes stolida (Fabricius) while
the most commonly used name is Prodotis stolida (Fabricius) |
Pest status:

The pest status is unknown. The moth is omnipresent in Namibia and
seen flying around in fields and gardens during day time and often found
resting at the security lights next morning.
The only host plant listed in the CABI Pest Protection Compendium is
Terrestris
tribulus which is a widespread and troublesome weed in Namibia (Devil's
thorn). This plant can be seen under species no
76. Devil's Thorn looper.

Description:

The moth has a wingspan of 35 mm and is black with a few pale yellow
bands across the front wings.
At present there is no description of the eggs or caterpillars.

Control is not recommended until the pest status is established. |
Other notes:
|
This moth is found every year in large numbers in northern Namibia.
The flight during daytime is fast and the moth frequently jumps a few meters
away to land on the ground or low vegetation for a few minutes and then
continue the flight. |
