No local names were recorded. The CABI crop pest compendium gives the scientifically preferred name as Grammodes stolida (Fabricius) while the most commonly used name is Prodotis stolida (Fabricius)

Pest status:

The pest status is unknown. The moth is omnipresent in Namibia and seen flying around in fields and gardens during day time and often found resting at the security lights next morning.

The only host plant listed in the CABI Pest Protection Compendium is Terrestris tribulus which is a widespread and troublesome weed in Namibia (Devil's thorn). This plant can be seen under species no 76. Devil's Thorn looper.

Description:

The moth has a wingspan of 35 mm and is black with a few pale yellow  bands across the front wings.

At present there is no description of the eggs or caterpillars.

Control:

Control is not recommended until the pest status is established.

Other notes:

This moth is found every year in large numbers in northern Namibia. The flight during daytime is fast and the moth frequently jumps a few meters away to land on the ground or low vegetation for a few minutes and then continue the flight.
