PEST STATUS
P. lugubris is possibly a minor pest
on cucurbits, but the pest status is unknown. The species was included
as farmers in western Omusati complained about P. lugubris on cucurbit
flowers. It may have been overlooked other places, as it was only reported
and collected from the vegetable projects around Olushandja dam (Eunda)
in the Omusati region.
DESCRIPTION
Prosmia lugubris is a small beetle,
8 mm long. It is bright red on the front of the body and shining black
on the back. The beetle is found in flowers of cucurbits.
CONTROL
No control methods have yet been reported.
